Surgery for Fungus Nails

Fungus nails can be a very unsightly foot condition which can affect your self confidence. Are you hiding your feet away in the summer, on holidays or in public? We understand that fungus nails do not cause you pain but they can seriously affect your lifestyle and quality of life. The accompanying musty foul smell can also be a source for concern. Laser treatment can take 6 to 18 months to get rid of your fungus nails while our unique surgical nail care package may resolve your fungus nails in a few weeks.

Fungus nails can appear:

Thickened
Whitish to yellow-brown discoloration
Brittle, crumbly or ragged
Distorted in shape
A dark color, caused by debris building up under your nail
Smelling slightly foul

Factors that can increase your risk of developing nail fungus include:

Sweating heavily
Having a history of athlete's foot
Walking barefoot in damp communal areas, such as swimming pools, gyms and shower rooms

Surgery as a Treatment Option for Fungus Nails

We offer various treatment options for fungal nails including, Laser, Clearanail and Pact. However one of the quickest and most efficient methods to treat fungus nails is nail surgery, Nail fungus breeds in the nail bed which is under the nail plate, By safely removing the nail under local anesthetic and then removing all the nail fungi from the nail bed this allows a new healthy nail to grow. Recovery can be 4-5 weeks post surgery and you can have a new healthy nail growing in a few months. From a mild fungus nail infection which could be just a little brown discoloration to a severe fungus nail infection such as above, surgery for fungus nails could be a solution for you.

Is Surgery More Effective then Laser Treatment for Fungus Nails?

Laser treatment for fungal nails can be very effective however this can take 12 to 18 months to return to healthy nails. Once we remove the fungally infected nails and we remove all the fungi from the nail bed (which is where the fungus actually grows), you then have a clean slate so to speak, this can result in new healthy nail growth within months.

What is the cost of fungus toenail removal surgery?

The cost depends on the number of toenails which are fungally infected and the procedure we choose for your particular toe nail fungus, this will be discussed with yourself at the initial consultation. We specialize in tailored surgery for removing the toenails to get rid of fungus nails and as such we can provide the highest level of care required for your particular toe nail problem.

Can I visit from outside Birmingham to have this Surgery?

We have patients from all over the United Kingdom that visit our clinic for removal of fungal toe nails, you would need to attend a minimum of 2 times, for the initial consultation, surgery and the optional review appointment. We can also communicate via email to monitor you're recovery and if need be we will provide letters to your GP to inform them of the procedure we have carried out.

Will I be provided with post procedural care package?

We realize that surgery can be traumatic experience and as such we provide a comprehensive after care package with detailed instructions on how to manage your toe nails after the procedure AND to prevent re infection with fungi.
